I’m an avatar in a virtual world and my name in this World is Rorrim Wrigglesworth.

That World I live in is called

SL has been my “home” since a group of us left another Virtual World we inhabited. I first met my friends there back in late 2007. We had fun there and met some good friends, some of these became really close friend and personal friends and we still keep in touch on a daily basis with quite a few of these.

However in the early months of 2008, if I recall correctly, we felt that things were not going as well as was claimed in the “Old World” we lived in, despite their claims to the contrary. So eventually a group of us decided to take a look at a place we had heard of, a place that offered great things and new ideas, no promises given that we would like it or not or that we would be happy there but eventually we “set sail” to this “New World”.

Unlike the Pilgrim Fathers who set sail for America, we wouldn’t starve or face hardships aplenty as they had all those years ago (it’s got to somewhat hard to starve an avi really!) but after landing on the shores of this “Brave New World” ( translate this as downloading new software for a Virtual World and then logging on, so.. not as long as sailing the Atlantic in a wooden ships then!)

Someone once said that “Each journey starts with a single footstep” and so it was that we took our first small steps in this new world. Small they may have been at first but we were astonished and amazed at what could be done here and so we took larger and bigger steps as we found our footing (and worked out how to use the SL viewer). Quite a difference to what we had been used too and also it could be quite off putting at the start. One bonus though was that we also found that we could fly! (No Red Bull for me then! )

This was a World that could be whatever you wanted it to be. A World of limitless exploration, limitless places to see along with thousands of things and ideas that people had created. Some of these wouldn’t be out of place in RL, but also some would be hard to find, and no doubt illegal (?) in RL too.

We soon found a home on an island with lots to do there (Mykonos if I recall the name correctly, no doubt I’ll be corrected at some point on this, apart from taking a look at some snapshots I took that are on my lappy somewhere (I may add some of these later on). The homes were small in comparison to what we have in SL now (Cue “The Four Yorkshiremen” sketch from Monty Python, one of my brothers favourite ones too!) it would be like a room in the home I have in SL now! But… it, the island home we rented on was lovely and quite, and peaceful too, unlike the troubles you could encounter in the World we left behind. A World where things were promised to us and never ever materialised and even when we left they were still promising these selfsame things. We found these things, and more, among a sea of others all over this new World. They were still promising these things over a year later in our old home too and as I said all of these were there in our new world and so we were slowly putting down roots here. Four years on and we all have homes, more friends, some have business’s inworld, selling outfits, gadgets, scripts etc etc. Also we have a club (Heroes) now open for over 18 months and with a growing group membership, DJ’s most nights, live bands playing, along with Fashion shows and charity gigs to raise money for very good causes.

RFL was the last one and in 24hrs we raised $L201k, this was back in July last year.
